Thailand launches tourism boost campaign amid declining arrivals

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has introduced 12 targeted travel campaigns designed to promote domestic tourism across 55 provinces, aiming to counteract the decline in international arrivals during the green season. These campaigns are part of the “Year of Celebration” initiative, under the umbrella of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025, with an expected tourism revenue of at least 500 million THB (around US$15 million).

Kritsada Tanthetthit, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, emphasized that this program plays a vital role in revitalizing Thailand’s tourism sector from June to September 2025. The focus is on encouraging local travel, showcasing emerging destinations, and offering diverse experiences to travelers.

The Thai government’s overall goal for 2025 is to generate 1.17 trillion THB (approximately US$35 billion) in tourism revenue and facilitate 205 million domestic trips. Kritsada highlighted that these lifestyle-driven campaigns align with modern travelers’ preferences and aim to broaden the domestic tourism base creatively and strategically.

These initiatives are expected to benefit local communities, boost regional economies, and reinforce Thailand’s reputation as a premier travel destination. Despite a slight decline in foreign visitors—12.9 million international arrivals from January 1 to May 11, a 1.04% decrease compared to the previous year—the focus on domestic tourism is seen as a strategic move to sustain industry growth.
