Lufthansa Group Moves Forward with ITA Airways Integration

Lufthansa Group has officially begun the integration of ITA Airways (AZ) into its network, bringing immediate benefits to passengers.

Key initial steps include merging frequent flyer programs, changing terminal locations, granting mutual lounge access, and expanding codeshare agreements. At a press conference in Rome, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, AZ Chairman Sandro Pappalardo, and AZ CEO Joerg Eberhart outlined these advancements.

Starting today, 36 million Miles & More members can earn and redeem miles on all AZ flights, while 2.7 million AZ Volare members can exchange points on flights operated by Lufthansa and its affiliates.

From March 30, 2025, AZ will relocate to Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Terminal 2 at Munich Airport (MUC), aiming to streamline passenger transfers and reduce connection times. AZ passengers will also gain access to around 130 lounges within the Lufthansa Group network.

Beginning this summer, AZ will introduce over 100 new codeshare connections, allowing for seamless travel across Europe. This expansion enables LH Group customers to reach more destinations in Italy and improves connections to long-haul flights.

ITA Airways is transitioning from SkyTeam to the Star Alliance, with full integration expected by mid-2026, enhancing the travel experience for AZ passengers.

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr emphasized the merger’s importance, stating it aims to quickly deliver benefits to both AZ and Lufthansa customers while anticipating a profitable year for AZ. This integration marks a significant step for both airline groups, enhancing their connectivity and services for travelers worldwide.
