Jetstar is set to upgrade its Boeing 787s with a multi-million dollar refurbishment, introducing new business class and economy seats, as well as inflight WiFi. However, the upgraded 787s will not have individual video screens; instead, WiFi will allow passengers to stream content to their own devices.
The aircraft will also feature crew rest bunks, enabling long-range flights to destinations such as India, the USA, and potentially South Africa. The first upgraded 787 is scheduled for maintenance in January 2026, with all eleven Dreamliners undergoing the refit in phases lasting about six weeks each.
In business class, Jetstar plans to expand capacity from 21 to 44 seats while removing 33 economy seats. The new business class seats will remain recliners, with a 2-3-2 layout, and will feature device holders, power outlets, and generous recline. Additionally, passengers will soon be able to use Qantas Points to upgrade from economy to business class.
Economy class will also receive new ergonomic seats from Recaro, equipped with USB power outlets and built-in device holders. The seat pitch will remain the same at 30 inches in economy and 38 inches in business.
Satellite WiFi will be installed for inflight content streaming and internet access. After the upgrade, Jetstar’s 787s will also have dedicated crew rest bunks, allowing for longer operational ranges and the potential to fly to more distant destinations, including India and Sri Lanka.
