Oman Air unveils new 787 Business class

Oman Air is set to introduce an all-new business class on its upcoming Boeing 787 deliveries, featuring private, doored suites arranged in a conventional 1-2-1 layout.

Currently, the airline’s business class is configured in a 2-2-2 arrangement with the unique Apex Suite design, which offers a staggered seating layout that allows window passengers direct aisle access without needing to navigate past their seatmates.

Oman Air operates ten Boeing 787s, with an additional two expected to arrive in the new year. One of these is anticipated to feature a special Oneworld livery to commemorate the airline’s entry into the Oneworld alliance on June 30, 2025.

These forthcoming aircraft will be the last new Dreamliners equipped with Oman Air’s existing 2-2-2 business class layout, before the delivery of six additional Dreamliners starting in 2027. The airline’s CEO, Con Korfiatis, shared that this expansion will support growth in widebody capacity, even as some of the existing 787s begin to come off lease at that time.

Korfiatis noted that the current business class cabin suffers from an inefficient layout due to the extra space required to provide direct aisle access for window seat passengers. Oman Air’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mick Rutter, emphasized that this overhaul presents an opportunity to invest in a more efficient use of onboard space and enhance the modernity of the product. He expressed ambition to offer strong product values comparable to those of Qatar and Emirates while achieving better overall economics for the airline.

Additionally, the six new Boeing 787s will feature a standard two-class layout, as Oman Air has phased out first class due to low demand. The eight high-walled suites will now be marketed as an upgraded business class product known as the Business Studio.
