Around 20,000 Non-Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents Granted Mainland Travel Permits

On Wednesday, Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, Tang Ping-keung, announced that approximately 20,000 non-Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents have been issued mainland travel permits from July to mid-October 2024.

According to Tang, these permits have facilitated a total of 53,000 arrivals and departures using the document. Since July 10, non-Chinese permanent residents of both the HKSAR and the Macao Special Administrative Region have been eligible to apply for these special travel permits for entry into mainland China.

Tang noted that the new measure has been well-received across various sectors, as it substantially reduces clearance times and meets the needs of individuals visiting the mainland for business, academic and cultural exchanges, as well as leisure travel. Many have indicated that this initiative has enabled them to participate more actively in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, he added.
