Oman Air has officially joined the Oneworld alliance as its 15th member, following in the footsteps of Fiji Airways, with Hawaiian Airlines expected to join in 2026.
As the national carrier of Oman, Oman Air operates just below the UAE in the Gulf region, serving destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and India. Its network is expanding, with recent additions such as Amsterdam and a potential future route to Singapore.
Oneworld CEO Nat Pieper highlighted that Oman Air’s inclusion “adds valuable strategic reach as well as award-winning service and products” to the alliance. He emphasized that this partnership offers new travel options for customers, especially across the Gulf and South Asia, strengthening Oneworld’s reputation as the premier alliance for international travelers.
Oman Air’s membership will enable members to earn and redeem frequent flyer points across all Oneworld airlines and benefit from reciprocal status advantages aligned with Oman Air’s Sindbad loyalty program.
Currently, Oman Air offers two elite Sindbad tiers:
- Sindbad Silver, aligned with Oneworld Ruby
- Sindbad Gold, aligned with Oneworld Sapphire
The airline plans to introduce a third tier, Sindbad Platinum—equivalent to Oneworld Emerald—by the end of the year. This top-tier status will include access to Oman Air’s flagship first-class lounge in Muscat and discounts on additional Oman Air services and products. The upgrade in the loyalty program is expected to roll out in late 2025, marking a significant enhancement to its offerings, according to Oman Air’s Chief Commercial Officer Mike Rutter.
Rutter mentioned that the refreshed program would involve adopting a new rewards currency, designed for broader application beyond the current system. During a media briefing celebrating Oman Air’s Oneworld membership, he also commented on the airline’s future growth plans, which include expanding the fleet with new Boeing 787s.
However, CEO Con Korfiatis emphasized a pragmatic approach: the airline aims to grow sensibly, relying on strong relationships within the Oneworld alliance and other key partnerships to establish a solid global platform without overextending.
