Vietjet Air orders 100 A321NEO and 50 options

Vietjet, the rapidly expanding private airline based in Vietnam, continues its aggressive growth trajectory. The airline has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus for a substantial new order of 100 A321neo single-aisle aircraft, with an option to acquire an additional 50 units at a later date. This agreement exceeds all prior Airbus orders placed by Vietjet since 2014 in terms of volume.

Deliveries of these new aircraft are anticipated to commence from 2030.

Currently, Vietjet operates a fleet of over 115 Airbus aircraft, predominantly from the A320 family (A320, A321, A321neo), alongside seven A330-300 widebody jets. The airline also leases two C919 aircraft from COMAC under wet-lease arrangements.

The low-cost carrier’s fleet includes more than 30 A321neo aircraft, with plans to acquire nearly 90 more, including A321XLR models. Furthermore, the airline intends to add 40 A330-900neos to bolster its international expansion efforts, with targeted routes to Australia, Europe, and the Americas.

In addition, Vietjet is a key customer of Boeing’s 737 MAX family, with a fleet comprising approximately 200 aircraft. A third of these are operated by its subsidiaries in Thailand and Kazakhstan.
