Japan’s ANA plans to introduce a new Boeing 787 business class suite, named The Room FX, in mid-June, inspired by their flagship The Room suite on Boeing 777s. Although the meaning of ‘FX’ remains unclear, the new suite aims to deliver the same space, privacy, and elegance as the original.
Launched in 2019, The Room redefined premium business class with its focus on spaciousness and minimalism. With The Room FX, ANA hopes to bring that same sophisticated experience to the Boeing 787.
ANA will officially unveil The Room FX on June 17 at the 2025 Paris Air Show. The suite has been co-developed with Safran Seats and design firm Acumen—also behind ANA’s 777 The Room and The Suite. Inspired by modern Japanese living, the design emphasizes decluttering and functionality, incorporating three wood finishes—rosewood, light Japanese ash, and dark Japanese ash—to evoke warmth and a home-like atmosphere.
While Safran’s Unity business class platform, used by competitors like JAL, Qantas, and Air India, could serve as a basis, the final design of The Room FX will aim to surpass ANA’s current 787 business class, which, while comfortable, isn’t as competitive as newer private suites with advanced technology.
The new suite is expected to debut in 2026 on both new and retrofitted ANA 787-9 aircraft, which will also feature upgraded premium economy and economy cabins.
