Korean Air launches new Premium Economy class

Korean Air plans to introduce brand new premium economy recliner seats by the end of this year, currently being installed on the airline’s Boeing 777 aircraft.

Chairman and CEO Walter Cho shared the news during the launch of Korean Air’s new branding and livery, stating that each aircraft will feature around 20-25 premium economy seats, catering to all long-haul routes. Eleven out of the airline’s 25 Boeing 777-300ERs will be retrofitted, eliminating first class to accommodate an expanded business class section with the latest Prestige Suites 2.0.

Cho confirmed that the first 777-300ER is already undergoing retrofitting. Additionally, both the A350s and Boeing 777-9 models will also incorporate premium economy seats. Deliveries of the 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft are expected to start in 2028, featuring new private first class suites.

Korean Air Executive Vice President David Pacey specified the timeline for the revamped 777s, indicating that they are likely to be ready for the fall or winter schedule, as preparations are already underway.
