Qatar Airways to open new lounge in Suvarnabhumi Airport

Qatar Airways’ Bangkok Premium Lounge offers a high-quality experience for passengers commencing their journeys on the airline’s five daily flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Doha. It is particularly favored by business class travelers from Oneworld airlines, especially Qantas, as well as Finnair and Malaysia Airlines, when the lounge’s hours align with their flight schedules.

Like most of Qatar Airways’ Premium Lounges worldwide, access to the Bangkok lounge is restricted to first and business class passengers, with frequent flyers routed to alternative lounges. In Bangkok, this includes the Air France, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines lounges, as well as the independent Miracle Lounge.

Currently, there are plans for a brand-new Bangkok Premium Lounge at the airport’s ‘midfield satellite’ terminal, which aligns with the fact that all Qatar Airways flights have been departing from this terminal since early 2024. The new space is currently a large, empty shell.

Once it opens, Qatar Airways plans to close its existing lounge in the main terminal, eliminating another premium lounge option for business class travelers on Oneworld airlines. While there is a convenient ‘automated people mover’ train linking the two terminals, the local airport authority has stated that only passengers departing from the ‘midfield satellite’ terminal can use this inter-terminal train.

Cathay Pacific’s Bangkok Lounge has long been a favorite for Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire frequent flyers, including Qantas’ Platinum and Gold members, and many business class travelers. However, overcrowding has led to the lounge being available primarily for Cathay passengers during peak periods, such as during Qantas’ 6 pm flight to Sydney, which is sandwiched between Cathay flights at 5:30 pm and 7 pm. Consequently, numerous Qantas passengers have been redirected to the Air France lounge, which unfortunately does not offer the same quality as the Cathay or Qatar lounges.
