All Nippon Airways to receive first 777-9 in 2026/27

ANA anticipates receiving its inaugural Boeing 777X in the fiscal year 2026 as part of its fleet renewal and expansion strategy.

This updated forecast comes amid widespread aircraft delivery delays attributed to Boeing’s struggles to meet production targets, resulting in an increasing backlog and postponed timelines. Despite these challenges, ANA remains committed to the 777X, with the high-capacity 777-9 expected to be a crucial component of its modernization efforts.

Initially, ANA placed an order for 20 units; however, in 2022, the airline modified its order by substituting two passenger aircraft for the upcoming 777-8F designated for its ANA Cargo division. This decision, made during the firming of the order, aligns with ANA’s goal to modernize its fleet, enhancing efficiency and retiring older long-haul jets.

The interior layout for the 777-9 has yet to be determined, a situation complicated by ongoing uncertainties affecting 777X customers due to delivery delays and certification issues.

Concerning the Boeing 777X delays, customers like ANA have grappled with numerous uncertainties in the program, as Boeing initially planned to deliver the first aircraft in 2020. Now, as we reach the midpoint of the decade, the aircraft has not been delivered to any airline, nor has it begun scheduled flights or received certification.

Boeing had set a target for certification and first delivery in 2025; however, analysts have expressed skepticism about achieving this timeline given the significant delays encountered.
