The StandardX has announced the opening of its second hotel, The StandardX, Bangkok Phra Arthit.
The hotel joins the brand’s property in Melbourne’s Fitzroy neighbourhood, The StandardX Melbourne, which opened last year.
Describing itself as “the rebellious younger sibling of the Standard,” the Standard International brand “deliberately chooses culturally rich, but often unexpected locations within major global cities that immerse guests into the local art, fashion, and music scenes.
In line with this ethos, the StandardX, Bangkok is home to 10 10 Art Gallery, a space hosting work from local artists, and has plans to introduce an artist-in-residence programme in the future.
Artists Gongkan and MRKREME, whose work is currently being shown in 10 10 Art Gallery, were commissioned to decorate the hotel’s streetside and riverfront facades too.
Located in Bangkok’s old town on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the property has 62 guest rooms, sized between 30 and 46 sqm across four categories: Cozy King, Cozy Twin, King on the River and King of Kings.
As for its food offering, there is an all-day Thai restaurant, BANG, which is also found at the Melbourne property, and a rooftop, poolside bar. Coffee varieties from growers in Thailand’s Pua District are served throughout the hotel.
Another interesting addition is a retail concept store, The Box, which sells a curated selection of drinks, snacks and local goods.
Standard International was recently acquired by Hyatt, in a US$150 million deal which has seen the group create a new dedicated lifestyle group headquartered in New York City and led by Amar Lalvani, Standard International’s executive chairman.
